So this post got me thinking about what big planes have been operated from carriers, since the Vigilante is (I haven't crunched the numbers) the largest plane to perform regular operations from US carriers.

Kinja'd!!!

B-25, Doolittle raid on Tokyo, 1942. Probably doesn't really count, since the Mitchell didn't actually operate from the Hornet, it just took off.

North American AJ (A-2) Savage. Only served for a short time.

Kinja'd!!!

The Dragon Lady. Project Whale Tail, a joint venture with the Navy, Lockheed and the CIA, developed the U-2G to operate from forward-deployed carriers.

The C-130. To analyze the feasibility of using the C-130 to resupply carriers, they performed 29 touch-and-go landings, 21 unarrested full-stop landings, and 21 unassisted takeoffs at gross weights of 85,000 pounds up to 121,000 pounds.

Wonder just how big a plane you could launch with the pistons plus JATO
